EAs, News Trading, and Overnight Holding Without a Consistency Rule

August 26, 2026

A flexible trading program can support automated systems, discretionary news trading, and positions held overnight without requiring profits to be evenly distributed across a fixed number of trading days. That flexibility does not remove published risk limits or prohibited practices.

Expert advisors and automation

Expert advisors can automate entries, exits, position sizing, and trade management when they are compatible with the chosen MetaTrader platform and comply with the account rules. Check whether the provider prohibits latency exploitation, abusive order behavior, unauthorized account copying, or other specifically defined practices.

Backtesting and a VPS can help maintain consistency of execution, but neither guarantees results. Set exposure limits within the 4% daily-loss boundary and the 6% overall-loss boundary.

Trading economic news

News trading means a program does not automatically prohibit positions around scheduled economic announcements under its stated rules. Spreads can widen, liquidity can change, and stop-loss orders may fill away from their expected prices during volatile periods. The account remains responsible for all applicable drawdown limits.

Overnight and weekend positions

Overnight holding allows a position to remain open after the trading day ends. Supported weekend holding depends on the instruments, broker schedule, and program terms. Swaps, gaps, margin changes, and market closures can alter account equity even when no new position is opened.

What no consistency rule does and does not mean

No consistency rule means there is no separate published requirement to distribute profits evenly or cap a single strong day merely because it is larger than previous days. It does not cancel the 10% reward-activation target, the loss boundaries, eligibility checks, location restrictions, or transaction-processing requirements.
